UFO In Poble Sec

Encounters don't get much closer than this - unless your name is Whitley Strieber. Walking up c. Concordia, Mrs. HD was almost hit in the head by what looked like a low-flying pigeon. Until she noticed that both its wings were bright green in colour, as you can see from the blown up picture, above.

Her first though was that it must be a cross-breed with the local feral Monk Parakeets that are muscling their way into the local ecosystem. But as pigeons are from order Columbiformes, parakeets Psittaciformes, and thus only distantly related, such a union would be entirely fruitless.

Before I had the chance to excitedly call up the Centre for Fortean Zoology and get them to investigate, Mrs HD did a bit of online research herself and quickly cleared up the mystery for once and for all.

There have been a number of reports such as this plus videos relating to multi-coloured pigeons across Spain. It appears that these are racing pigeons whose plumage has been dyed by their owner as a means of identification, and our mystery low-flying object was probably an off-course race contender, or possibly escaped after being stolen. Here's a video of some prize painted poultry.

OVNI En El Poble-sec
